Music of the malinke

The traditional music of the Malinke is played at festivities. The musicians play at cultural and religious festivals, social events, as well for the workers on the field, for the magicians or for a masque dancer. 

The music serves the dance. Each festival has its own dances, rhythms and sequences. The interaction between the drummers and the dancers has been experienced through several repetitions of the celebrations. Nevertheless, the interplay between music and dance is always reinvented in the specific moment again. 

The spectators often take an active part in the 
dance sequences.
